The cup says all.
A hearty brunch at Portage Bay Cafe near U-District. Ordered my brunch staple - eggs benedict - only this time I got the smoked salmon version. Possibly the best eggs benedict I’ve had so far. BF got the French toast, bacon, eggs, and potato breakfast combo. So happy.

A beautiful masterpiece of a dessert - Banana bread pudding with caramel drizzle, walnuts, and coffee ice cream.

French tapas (think dim sum - cute, little appetizer-sized dishes) from a cozy wine bar & restaurant called Pair in Seattle. Perfect for date night.

Everything was absolutely delicious and so refined. We started off with the Gougeres (cheese puffs) - light, flaky biscuits with warm cheese inside. So good…Then we had the special - a creamy duck risotto with a poached egg on top - and the pan-seared trout. Both came with beautiful plating and harmoniously balanced flavors/textures.

Not pictured, but we also got the steak frites - a very rich but satisfying dish of tender, juicy beef slices and fries, covered with flavorful blue cheese crumbles. Yum.

Very, very solid Taiwanese restaurant in Bellevue, WA called Facing East. Loved their traditional rice with braised pork (lu-rou fan), and red bean shaved ice dessert.

Fish tacos at the same place in Pike Place Market. A bit bland, but very fresh.

Crab melt sandwich at a restaurant in Pike Place Market. Gooey and delicious, although a bit pricey.

A croquet madame from Petit Abeille in NYC. It may not look like a lot, but trust me - it was VERY filling. And heavy. But SO good…

This brunch spot had high ratings on Yelp, and this dish in particular got tons of rave reviews. Didn’t know this before, but a croque-monsieur is basically a French version of grilled ham & cheese. The madame is the same but with a poached egg on top, like a Parisian hat.

Very happy with my choice - there’s something deeply satisfying about mopping up the rich, runny egg yolk with a thick loaf of bread covered in melted cheese…

Asian-style salad tossed with peanut sauce, miso soup, and crispy pork katsu, paired with a glass of chilled Sapporo.

Mm. Perfect lunch.

In China, McDonald’s has its own cafe area with espresso machines and comfy seats.
I was impressed with my cappuccino. And +1 for their prices which are 1/2 the price of Starbucks in China.

Chinese birthday cakes are so pretty. And light/airy, with their whipped cream and fruit topping instead of butter-based icing.

月饼 (mooncake - a Chinese pastry with a rich lotus seed filling and salted duck eggyolk) and 老婆饼 (“wife” or sweetheart cake - a flaky pastry with a winter melon, almond, and sesame filling).
Who cares if they’re probably made with lard and 1,000+ calories apiece…

Bowl of deliciousness from Gulangyu Island, Xiamen - Coconut milk, red beans, mung beans, barley, peanuts, mochi chunks, and a kind of herbal grass jelly called Shao Xian Cao (烧仙草).

Mild - medium - spicy.

The beautiful color gradient of beef noodle soup from Kangshifu Noodle Restaurant in China. Missing their chewy noodles with huge chunks of soft, juicy slow-cooked beef right now…
